TikTok users put out a lot of content. In fact, many popular creators post to their accounts multiple times a day. With so much content on a person’s profile, it can be challenging for users to find a specific video. That’s where the pinning feature comes in.
If you’ve found that some of your favorite videos get buried in the flood of content you have to put out to stay on top of the trends, you’re not alone. Luckily, TikTok is pretty good at responding to creator needs with new features, and the pinning feature is no exception.
TikTok has a feature that allows creators to pin specific videos to the top of their profile feed. They appear as the first videos in the feed with a “Pinned” sticker. This shows users who visit the profile that these videos are not the most recent and allows the creator to present whatever video they want their profile visitors to see first right at the top of their feed.
The “Pinned” sticker is eye-catching, making it an effective way to draw attention to a certain video.
To pin a TikTok to your profile, click the three dots in the bottom right corner to share, then click the “Pin” button to pin it to your profile. You can pin up to three TikToks. This fills up the top row of your feed.
Note that you can only pin your own videos, not those created by other users.
So, when should you use the Pin feature? Many creators pin their top-performing videos in an effort to convert profile visitors. Other users warn against pinning already viral videos, as that might be a wasted opportunity. Some report success pinning videos that are just under their desired view threshold (for example, pinning an 800K views video so that it can reach 1M views).
Another way to use this feature– pin videos that showcase the overall theme of your TikTok account. That means your introductory videos that share who you are, what your story is, and what content you post.
You can also use the pinning feature to convert profile videos by pinning videos that feature your products.
Hopefully, we will get some stats on this feature in the future. For now, all the evidence is anecdotal. The best way to find out which videos to pin to boost your TikTok performance is trial and error. After all, every target audience has its own set of typical behaviors.
Comments can also be pinned to the top of a specific video’s comments section. All you have to do is press and hold on your comment of choice, then tap pin or unpin.
Be aware— you can only pin one comment at a time. If you want to replace the comment you’ve already pinned, just press on the new comment you’d like to pin then tap “Pin and replace”.
Here are some reasons you might want to pin a comment:
Sometimes creators pin comments in lieu of editing their caption or to set the general mood or direction of the comments section.
